#32   Third Floor & Basement

The “skinny staircase” is just a sample that remains of the staircase which originally provided access to the third floor. This was renovated when the building became a public museum, as a full fire escape was required in the building.

Before 1919, the captain of this hall and his family lived there.

In more recent years, it was used as a locker room and workout area. It is now used as a storage area for artifacts and historical documents.

The basement was commonly used for fire service equipment storage, and still hold excess equipment and artifacts today.
