Self-Guiding Tour
#24 Bedrooms
There were 10 bedrooms and offices on the second floor. Each firefighter slept in a dorm room with the other firefighters in their “company”. The room they stayed in was assigned by proximity to their apparatus on the main floor. They stayed in the bedroom directly above, or closest to the wagon or machine they worked on.
This station was originally home to four companies, a steamer, a hose wagon, a “double chemical unit”, and an aerial unit. In the 1970s it was home to five companies, two engines (one being “high pressure”), a rescue squad, an aerial ladder, and a district chief, meaning 16 firefighters worked in the station.
