#18 75-Foot Hose Drying Tower
This tower was used for drying hose after a fire to prevent mold and rot of the hoses when they were made of more natural materials. It was not used as a lookout tower for spotting fires as many people believed it to be.
Today’s fire hoses are made of rubber and polyester, and still require being hung for drying. Some current fire stations have hose drying towers.
